Oneupweb Reviews: Traverse City Lip Dub

What a beautiful weekend! We are having some fantastic weather here in Traverse City, which was perfect for our Traverse City lip dub. What is a lip dub, you ask? Well, if you don’t already know, take a look at the Grand Rapids lip dub. The city created it in response to a magazine article saying that Grand Rapids was a dying city.

Here’s a quick behind the scenes video I was able to put together of the making of the Traverse City lip dub:

I have to admit I wasn’t even planning on going to the lip dub, but it just sounded like such a great time, I couldn’t help myself! Here are some pictures of the making of the lip dub:

Lip dubs seem to be picking up speed too. We’re seeing more and more of them all the time. Everyone loves to sing (but not everyone can) so lip dubs are an easy way for everyone to show their support for a cause, city or whatever.

We can’t wait to see the end result of the production. Thanks to the Traverse City Film Fest and FishSoup Films for putting this together. You can learn more about the Traverse City lip dub by visiting the Facebook Page.

What do you think about lip dubs? Where you able to be involved in the video?

Oneupweb : Schmoyoho YouTube Channel

You may be familiar with The Gregory Brothers’ YouTube channel called Schmoyoho. They’ve created videos like the Bed Intruder Song, Rent: Too Damn High Song, Double Rainbow Song, and more. They’re hook is that they Auto-Tune well-known YouTube videos into song remixes.

On Thursday they produced a new video with the “eHarmony cat lady” video. You can view the original video here.

Below is the Auto-Tuned version:

It was uploaded 21 hours ago and it already has nearly 300,000 views. That’s 14,285.71 views per hour – PER HOUR!

The people behind Schmoyoho channel are great at branding themselves, their videos and their other social media profiles. They have hilarious videos to back up their brand, which obviously helps, but they’re also excellent at promoting them. Digital marketers should take note. Below is a screenshot of their channel. I’ve highlighted some sections that I’d like to breakdown.

1. In the upper-right corner, they are branding their other social media channels like Facebook and Twitter, their website and their iTunes page. Plus they have a link to their custom t-shirts.

2. In the video section, they’ve added annotations at the end of their videos that usually provide calls-to-action for subscribing, watching the original video that they remixed and promoting the remixed song on iTunes.

3. Lastly, they provide links to their songs on iTunes and their custom t-shirts at the beginning of the description section.

What do you think of the Schmoyoho YouTube Channel presence? Do you think they do a good job?

Oneupweb Reviews: Mentos Fail, Battle at F-Stop and Mansour Bahrami [Videos]

It’s Friday! Don’t ruin it for yourself, and those around you, by singing the Friday song either. Okay fine—but just a few verses, get it out of your system, and then never again. Feel better? Annnd we’re back! It’s Friday! And you need a laugh or two after this busy week. So we’ve put together a few of our favorite funny videos from this week for your enjoyment. Here we go!

Diet Coke + Mentos FAIL

The world was forever changed when it was discovered that, when mixing the candy Mentos and Diet Coke, one could create a violent eruption of joy. So much good has come from this discovery, and I’m always up for another Mentos Diet Coke video. BUT, this one takes you (and the camera man) by surprise. The best part is the slow motion at the end.

In this next video we see a great example of creative marketing—and we’re huge fans! The boys at The Camera Store do a great job here of taking normal cameras and making them exciting! I love the flash bang reference! (For those that don’t know, the f/stop regulates how much light is allowed through the lens by varying the area of the hole the light comes through.)

MANSOUR BAHRAMI – Tennis’ Greatest Entertainer

It’s tennis season! And there truly is no greater tennis entertainer than Mansour Bahrami. Not only is this guy an amazing tennis player, but he plays to entertain the crowd. You will love his tricks and antics in this highlight video below:

And one last fun thing before we go. We wanted to highlight a conversation that took place on our Creative Meat blog between Robert and Kyla. Both have enjoyed retouching each other’s photos, and we thought we could give it a shot. Robert and Kyla, let us know what you think!

Robert and Kyla Retouching

We hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend. Stay safe, and enjoy the extra day off work! And as always, if you have any favorite videos from the week, please share in the comments below! Happy Memorial Day!

Oneupweb : Step & Close Nominated for a Telly Award

Oneupweb’s philanthropy documentary, Step & Close, has been nominated for a Telly Award. What are the Telly Awards?

The Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web.

The 45-minute marching band film focuses on the 2010 Traverse City West Titan Marching Band and assists music educators all over the country with recruiting and retaining band students. Oneupweb founder and CEO Lisa Wehr said the film recently won a gold Communitas award for its efforts, and was surprised to hear of its Telly nomination.

“We had no idea Step & Close would be in the running for a Telly,” Wehr said. “It [Step & Close] was Oneupweb’s way of giving back to our community and addressing the importance of supporting art education. To know that everyone’s hard work is competing with elite films is amazing. We’ve put in hours of our time and skills, now we just need the public’s help.”

You can help Step & Close win the award by giving it a “thumbs-up” of your own at the Telly Awards YouTube Channel. You can vote once a day until June 10th.

And with that, we give the Step & Close Telly Awards nomination a BIG thumbs-up!

Oneupweb Reviews : Friggatriskaidekaphobia

Friday the 13th. It’s a phrase we often associate with such things like back luck, the name Jason and old-school, yet incredibly creepy, hockey masks.

But does the word “friggatriskaidekaphobia” come to mind? Probably not. And yes, it’s a real word.

Friggatriskaidekaphobia Friday the 13th occurs when the thirteenth day of a month falls on Friday, which superstition holds to be a day of bad luck. In the Gregorian calendar, this day occurs at least once, but at most three times a year. Any month’s 13th day will fall on a Friday if the month starts on a Sunday.

Because it is Fun Friday, we turned to YouTube to get some answers:

Bigedude33

This YouTube user explains triskadekaphobia the only way he knows how, through the craft of song. You will also learn how to pronounce the 16-letter word. Triss-Kuh-Deck-Uh-Foh-Bea!

TobyTurner

Toby Turner, a Los Angeles-based comedian and actor known for his extremely popular Tobuscus YouTube channel, uploaded a video today (Friday the 13th) and it already has nearly 65,000 views. In my opinion, it’s not his best work, but he does explain the fear of Friday the 13th and runs into a fan while on the street.

Friggatriskaidekaphobia. Oneupweb gives it a thumbs-up. It’s fun to say and now we know the meaning of a 23-letter word. You learn something new everyday.

What’s your favorite thing about friggatriskaidekaphobia? Are you doing anything special for this notorious day? Are you friggatriskaidekaphobic? Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
